Right now demand is outstripping supply and they are struggling to decide how aggressively they want to expand. They have historically been very conservative with their expansion plans and their sales estimates because they are such a small company. This culture combined with their recent large increases (+27% sales through July) in sales numbers has resulted in Subaru of America Chairman Takeshi Tachimori being forced to apologize for the shortages. Currently they have a 15 day supply of the Forester in the US, compared to an industry average of around 60 days. The full story is at the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Interesting. I hope they can reinvest some of their profits into something fun.
Apparently, and in line with the Toyota and VW model, beige sells.

My advice? Mid-engine flat-12 STi supercar.
...whatdya mean that doesn't help with your demand problem at all? Well fine, I'll just take my shitty car business advice elsewhere!

maybe they can sell some Badges to Lincoln, or GM, or anyone else with loads of inventory...clears out old inventory, and Subaru makes a little coin...win/win .

They could funnel it into a new transmission technology to produce something other than crappy lineartronics, and outdated 5 speeds, They could re-invent the Tribeca and give it a less lame name, redevelop/update a premium powerplant (replace the EZ36) with FA/FB technology or update and federalize EE (2.0 diesel)...there are lots of great ways to spend that money and Subaru needs all of the above.

Seems like the easiest solution is to raise prices.

You'd think all the money they saved on keeping the same faulty EJ25 headgasket design for the last 20 years would allow them to spend money on ramping up the ability to produce more cars.
I'll stupidly buy another one of their cars, even after all the headgaskets that have failed me.

TRIangle BElow CAnal.
that's what Tribeca means. At least Subaru had the balls to name their softroader after a part of NYC that is covered in baked concrete and asphalt. They could have named it the Alps or the Lionsback or some other backcountry bullshit name of someplace their SUV will never be capable of going. However, I agree with everything you say. I would like the Legacy to have cutting edge design, I would like the Impreza to have an aggressive design. Instead we have two cars that think salt is an exotic spice.

couldn't edit my previous post. so
1. Big families in tribeca? nope.
2. Tribeca upper crust? Yup
3. Has Subaru ever tried, pretended to try or had any success with the upper crust? Nope.
4. Tribeca is 10,000 people, why name your car after someplace where, even if every man woman and child bought it...it would be considered a sales flop?
5. It doesn't jive with the rest of their naming convention...for the worse. impreza, legacy, forester....1/3rd of a square mile of Manhattan? wow.
Result, sales flop.
its still better than the original name Tribeca B9.
They should have called it the something like the forester; broad, indicative of its mild off road nature and fitting with its mission.

All good points. The only one I may disagree with is the first one. We only have two kids but are still looking for a seven seater. Two kids, two friends two adults, we're not fitting in my Forester. Big families will certainly need something larger, but you don't have to have a big family to out a five seater.
That being said Tribeca really isn't on our list either.
